Opera legend Jessye Norman died Monday at age 74.

The soprano died from septic shock and multi-organ failure secondary to complications of a spinal cord injury she had sustained in 2015, according to family statement issued to the Associated Press. “We are so proud of Jessye’s musical achievements and the inspiration that she provided to audiences around the world that will continue to be a source of joy. APS School Board not renewing superintendent’s contract

According to the above letter, Atlanta Public Schools has confirmed they will not be renewing Dr. Meria Carstarphen’s contract as superintendent. The Atlanta Board of Education called a special meeting on Monday morning where members met in executive session to discuss her future with Atlanta Public Schools The school board decided in July not renew Carstarphen’s contract, but delayed making it public inorder to have a smooth opening of the 2019 school year.
